^^\/\/\/\/^^ <><><><><> the spring gods
drunk with innocent power
stumble beneath the april sun
that slowly warms
their earthern altar
the inconstant daffodils
come and go with great alacrity
their early deaths contrasting
with the ethereal promise of a world grown young
still again

March bright post equinox Above a blinking chopper Flying low overhead at morning;
-- School buses idle, Still warming at their curbs,
Children gathering along their routes --
The early silence not yet overwhelmed By background voice of trucks and autos Or the shouts and pushes Of excited young primates Rushing reluctantly To and from their trainers. Lisa Jain Thompson

Out of the Valley Darkness
The desert made us,
Rose us up as nomads
To scatter across the face of earth Until we no longer remember Our life in the forest Or when our hunting bands Became tribes and villages
And weapons of war.

US Marines prohibit large tattoos The US Marines are banning the wearing of large tattoos, saying they do not represent "traditional values". Tattoos on the head or neck, or large tattoos on arms or legs will not be allowed. Marines already with the tattoos are exempt.
Unit commanders are photographing and documenting all existing tattoos to make sure Marines do not touch them up. Dozens of Marines are reportedly queuing up at tattoo parlours to beat the deadline.
Marines have long been banned from having racist or sexist tattoos.

that my house in Virginia is located a mile inside Iranian territorial waters. Who knew?

^^\/\/\/\/^^ poetical impressions
The Writer
Does it matter
That the person who writes this Still lives,
That the ink on this paper
Still smears As I my fingertips pass? Would these words
Seem so much better, If my bones lay undisturbed Beneath some stone mason's craft;
Or if only fragments survived
The fortunes of time's passing And the inconstant wrath of the gods? When we are gone,
All else is matter,
And matter's little more
Than air and shadows.
All things considered,
I would rather be here
Than in some graduate's incisive thesis Or an underpaid professor's Over-educated dissection. Lisa Jain Thompson

Caught Between a Rock and a Roll
(Tears on my Pillow)
When did Rhythm and Blues
Become a white man's game? Is everyone too busy Playing basketball and gangsta
To learn how to sing?
All the bling in the world Is worth a whole shitpot less Than Robert Johnson
And a pink Cadillac, Or Chuck on the corner,
Taking us back
To vinyl monaural, Single tracked, When we were all sixteen
And music ruled The minutes of our lives.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ Foolish Things
Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.
- Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC)
Mix a little foolishness with your prudence:
t's good to be silly at the right moment. - Horace (65 BC - 8 BC)
So, rather than appear foolish afterward,
I renounce seeming clever now. - William of Baskerville in 'The Name of the Rose'
It is human nature to think wisely and act foolishly.
- Anatole France (1844 - 1924)

Style Points
Ah, you'd think she was a lesbian,
If it weren't for her fingernails, As if all the women in the world Divided into athletic length or fills. There are more flavors on this earth
Than you have tasted In your circle of lovers and girlfriends. What is commonplace among your bed dates
Is some small town's ancient history
And still another's cutting edge avant-garde
Denounced as radical heresy.
Whatever is fit and proper
Will one day soon be outdated; What ever is outrageously outré Will soon be boringly sedative. The trick is to know
Which is which
And when is where, And then not give A good tinker's damn What the current rules Might demand of you.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ first love
Katie
Decades ago,
In a land far, far away,
Katie first stole my heart Then did not stay. Dark haired and eyed, She took me to her, Held me close In the august night Along the valley delta, Only to forget me When the autumn chill Drew her to another Who offered her What I could not, Leaving me alone
To watch the full moon rise
Across the banks Of the Sacramento. I remember her lips,
Her soft wet touch, The feel of her hair Across my face, The eager rush of her love The moment we met, And the emptiness She leaves deep inside me As I write these aging words. Lisa Jain Thompson
