^^\/\/\/\/^^ <><><><><> August has suddenly come calling
Although the calendar claims only June
The glow running off my body Tells elsewise Soaking the humid sheets
With musky sweetness That follows us into sleep Lisa Jain Thompson c. 2007 C. E.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ Hot off the presses
Paris is Burning
It's not right! MOM!
Paris is burning,
Oh no! Oh my!
Rotting in a
Hollywood jail cell. All Daddy's money
And tabloid photos
Can't make drunk driving
Go away.
Oh no! Oh my!
Paris Hilton
Is stone cold sober Today.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ puzzling through
These Bloody Genes
So I'm blooded with the genes
Of Native Americans,
Flowing in my veins along side
The red cells of North Africans,
Celts, Saxons, Greeks and Sicilians
-- There isn't a hairs bit of difference
Between any one of us,
Brothers under the skin,
Sisters in our flesh,
Children of a questionable heritage Who left home at an early age And never looked back.
I am, We are, a primate,
Cousin to chimps, gorillas and orangs,
Who worked hard to escape our jungle
Even as struggle to leave The bounds of Mother Earth
And touch the stars
That shine so brightly above us.

Capitalist serfs,
Communist serfs,
Or Socialist serfs?
Or do you prefer serfing on royal blood?

Two from the Road
1.
Crow on the curb,
Checking out the garbage,
Running his own
Recycling scam;
House to house,
Examining each bag,
In the early morning hours
Before the contract men arrive.
I named him Tony.
2.
The sky is clear,
The sun is bright,
Where did I put
My sunglasses?
The rain has cleared
The smuck from the air, Thank heavens
For Global Warming!
My eyes hurt.

My husband (30-something) came home from a business trip from Las Vegas shaved [down there]. For any unshaved guys like him who are considering shaving, I have two points: (1) Does your s.o. have sensitive skin? If she ever complains about whisker burn, then forget about shaving down there. (2) Unless you ask for her help shaving, there's a good chance your s.o. will think you are seeing an under-30 woman if you do this.

Love Runs Wild
There is now where else
Tonight we should be,
No fabulous palace,
No Hollywood party,
No place more special
Than here with you beside me. Outside our window the rain
May cloak the stars from our sight, The wind may blow to hurricane
Breaking buildings and bending trees. Lying in our bed in your arms,
I would die happily,
Free from the ravages
Of world and time, Love now,
Love always, Where were you
When I was twenty?

^^\/\/\/\/^^ life's travelog
Memory Flows
I was born between mountains,
Among the rivers and deltas,
Pacific salmon worked their way upstream
Under the footbridge at my college; In the morning I could see
The snow topped Sierra,
Afternoon bright Diablo in silhouette
As day slipped into sea.
I have walked beneath agéd sequoia
On six feet or more of snowpack, Swam in the ocean north of Frisco
Where my legs went numb in July, Descended onto Lake Tahoe
Through a twisting mountain pass Winding the backroads from Jackson,
And somehow wound up here
On a coast with a flat ocean And too many historic markers To ever catch a wave.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ Weingarten Reader #2
Over the years, I've become more and more disillusioned with men. This is mostly because in my dating experience I've been treated as a penis receptacle (PR). I'm not a stunningly pretty girl, and I'm not a troll. I'm told that I'm pretty, but almost exclusively by women (whatever that means). I've never had a boyfriend, some of that is by choice, but most of my dating experience is pretty much the same thing: I like boy, I think boy likes me (sometimes I've even been told as much), boy informs me that I am not his girlfriend and never was, just a convenient PR. I cry, The End. When you do that 3-4 times, dating doesn't seem that appealing. However, as I get closer to 30, I wonder if I should get back out there, and look for someone to spend my life with. But even when I see my friends, men and women, with their significant others I think they (the men) are only with their girlfriends only because they are afraid they won't get a better PR, and if they thought they could get someone better, they'd dump their significant other for the better PR. I think this only because that is what always happens to me, and I know that I need to see/hear/read examples where men want their SO for companionship and a PR.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ The electorate
Democratic Impulse
I would like to control
Your access to guns
While keeping my right
To keep mine.
I would like to take
Your words off the radio While filling the airways
With my own.
I rightly believe
In low taxes and small government,
As long as they take care
Of me and mine.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ Why do we need a month of Pride
With cable specials,
Festivals,
And mayoral proclamations
Like Black History Month? We have more than enough Pride
To last the whole year.
Or is there some hidden agenda
To gather us into convenient groups
To provide a better target For the terrorists and homophobic?
Or is it simply corporate America
-- and Canada, and Europe, and all those others --
Taking advantage of an opportunity
To define and exploit
A heretofore untapped
Virgin market segment?
I don't know which scares me worse.

Landover: Is there a subject that affects women the same way discussing tampons affects men?
Gene Weingarten: I doubt it, because women are adults.

^^\/\/\/\/^^ naked, looking in the mirror
Running True
I seem to have my grandmother's body,
Same age, same body, same face
With minor alterations, And my grandfathers' constitution,
Brains, and will to live,
The best that Sicily and England
Had to offer, grown in American soil With a classical education That blended the humanities With a knowledge and love of science. Someday this face, these brains
Will walk the sands of Mars, Explore Titan and the rings of Saturn,
Set out for any of a thousand suns To take root on the many new earths, Filled with billions of grand designs For my descendents to discover, As once we found this brave new world
Where now I stand, a naked link Sleepily reflected in the early morning light.
