There is nothing in the world that erythromycin won't cure, except perhaps death, and I'm not prepared for that.  Spring is here, summer is coming, the trees of fall and the world series are not far.

Where the wild things roam and pirates sail
Childhood magic and poets prevail.

Never bounce a bat off a cement wall in such a way as to have it bounce back and hit your left eye.  See  Bryce Harper, AKA The Kid, AKA The Babe, AKA The One Who Can't Miss.  10 stitches later he is still 19 and that explains a lot.
for all the ones we miss

Gram

I knew her in brief glimpses,
The grandmother of my girlfriend,
Met her at most a half dozen times,
Yet she treated me as one of hers,
Reminding me of my long dead grandparents,
Bringing me back to family,
My deep need for connection
And the touch of humanity.

— Lisa Jain Thompson (May 2012)
"And now," cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!"

-- Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are

lost in the back and forth I
Outside the Pentagon

Outside the Pentagon,
Security is out in force,
A medical emergency,
A body on a gurney,
Medic applying CPR as they
Roll him to the ambulance.

As it doesn't seem to be my body,
I continue down the escalator
To the Blue Line where a
Carefully spoken garbled voice
Announces the emergency is over
And the trains will resume shortly.

Summing Up

Rumors of rain in the air this morning
Drifting in from the midlands,
Our gentle rain is their violent tornado,
Our drought and allergy relief,
The destruction of their homes.

For every action there is an impact,
What is good for you and yours
May turn out quite bad for others;
As they say, there are no free lunches,
We live or die by skill and chance.

— Lisa Jain Thompson (May 2012)

And Max, the king of all wild things, was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.

-- Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are
the reality

The 21

I'm reasonably certain we told them
To stay away from the strip clubs,
Avoid the legal prostitutes,
And never, never be caught
With a woman in your room.

We're dealing with geographical bachelors
However, in the moment and out on their own
With only the wisdom of the pack to guide them,
That they may represent America holds little concern,
Ancient needs take precedence over all.

Lisa Jain Thompson (May 2012)
But the wild things cried, "Oh please don't go - we'll eat you up - we love you so!"

-- Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are

the only thing not changing is change

The Whole Wide World

The whole world has gone to earthquake and tornadoes,
The polar ice is boiling slowly away,
The hills are alive with panther and coyote,
Forest is afire devouring the landslide,
Today is the first day of the last day of many;
Please bring me some water somebody
Someday before a hurricane drowns me.

Poet by Poet

A poet is a time machine
Moving forward a day at a time
While struggling to maintain connected,
Poet by poet, with all
The possibilities of the past.

I am she and she is she
And He is one of many;
Of all the poems in all the world,
We build upon each other's skill,
And steal only from the best.

-- Lisa Jain Thompson  (May 2012)
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws but Max stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye.

chain of being
The Avian

The red breasted avian dinosaur,
Having return with warm weather,
Walks and hops his way across
The newly leafed green hosta,
Searching for worms and seeds.
T-Rex would not be amused,
But then T-Rex are all quite dead
And no longer have a vote.

look up damn it

The Morning Dew

Three vapors running parallel
North to south across the sky,
Still more along our distant horizons,
The heavens filled with jets and pilots,
Watch-fires of the Republic.
— Lisa Jain Thompson (May 2012)

And [he] sailed back over a year
and in and out of weeks
and through a day
and into the night of his very own room
where he found his supper waiting for him and it was still hot.

-- Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are

time passes step by hesitant step

So He's Evolving

He's evolving,
No decisions will be made
Until elective office is not an option.

So he's evolving,
Unable to commit to anything
That might cost him support.

He's evolving,
Just as he has for decades past,
Assessing his professors
To determine the proper position.

So he says he's evolving,
Remaining on the sideline
Until he can sense a definite winner.

baseball

Confrontation with Cole

The Kid don't flinch,
Stares you in the face,
Dares you try and sneak
Your best fastball by him,
Mano e mano, just you and him,
With only the filled stadium
And the nation watching;
If I were a betting poet,
I'd place my money on The Kid.

— Lisa Jain Thompson  (May 2012)

I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can't stop them. They leave me and I love them more.
